Creating Fields and the Hierarchy

Creating New Fields

For Editors and Managers Only

Before creating an order, the following information should be gathered:

Select an annual period:

This can correspond to the first sowing date of your fields or a specific date when you want to start gathering data. Subscriptions are for one year, but which period is flexible. A historical period is also possible to choose from.

Define field boundaries:

Provide GPS coordinates of the corner of your fields, or if familiar, use shapefiles or KML in EPSG:4326/WGS84 (to know more, contact irriwatch@hydrosat.com).

Provide field information:

Specify crop type for each field, irrigation method, and, if available, the soil details (soil texture class per field; sand, silt, clay % measurements, soil organic matter %, or soil maps in TIFF format). Include sowing/planting dates for annual crops. Include information available that can be relevant about the crop (for ex. the variety, known or predicted harvest date). Specific user input codes (crop, irrigation) can be found in Appendix B.
Once all the necessary information for the sign-up fields is obtained, contact irriwatch@hydrosat.com and Customer Support will help you setting up an order.

For Managers and Editors who wish to add a new farm and later add fields to it independently, the correct procedure is as follows:

1.

On the company page in Data & Insights, click the "Create New" button and select "New Farm".
Then, click the "Create New" button again, choose "New Field", and follow the instructions in the pop-up window.

2.

To create a new field, users must define the field boundaries on a map (in Draw or Upload boundaries as shape files either by uploading a shapefile or drawing the shape) and then add the necessary details. The General File Upload can be used to upload multiple files containing relevant information for order creation, such as PDFs, Excel files, KML or shapefiles for field boundaries, and soil maps in TIFF format.

3.

The 'Draw boundaries' software navigates like the program's Map View. The software has it's own instructions to help with this process.

4.

Once boundaries have been drawn, each field needs its details adding: the crop type, irrigation information, soil type etc.
After this step, it is complete and your field and field data should be accessible within the platform.
